Tips for effective reading



Reading is the process or act by which we did dedicate our mental and physical part towards studying relevant materials that is useful for our academic so as to excel in learning and acquire more knowledge. In many discipline there are much or wider books the students’ needs to read so as to pass their course.

The books entail accurate and efficient information needed to update their knowledge so as to be familiar with their spheres of competence and also devote their skills and abilities towards learning. Reading is a gradual and continuous process that requires a high level of devotion, reading can take the form of scanning through the books or content of the materials to be used followed by reading slow and aloud so as to memorize what one is learning.  

Reading is also an aid to active mental and psychological questions to ensure that one is on the right track so as not to deviate from what the students supposed to learn in class and at the school at large. It is very useful and important to underline various words, sentences and phrases that are in the book so as to be familiar with them, one can also divide the textbooks into various segments so as to ensure quick and accurate learning.  

After reading one paragraph or page of textbook student need to ask themselves question on what they have read and be able to summarize all what they have read, so that they will have more knowledge about what they have read. You can also write what you have read into a jotter and be able to jot down important points from what you have read.

The following tips are the basis for learning: 

 
1. Remembering: In reading you need to be able to comprehend your understanding with what you have heard in lecture hall. Reading will make you think back on those aspects of what you were taught in class and correlate it with your reading abilities this will ensure good memorization and increase academic performance. Students must ensure they listen very well in class to verbal and non-verbal way in which the lecturers use in expressing themselves in class.

2. Skimming: This is the process of reading thoroughly the content of a book. It involves looking deeply into every line, segment and parts of the textbooks. You will also be familiar with the book as you continue to read and re-read so as to ensure better understanding.

3. Scanning: This is use when you are searching for particular information in the textbooks. You will need to take a piece of information from what you want to read which is located in various relevant materials used in your study. It is mostly use when students need to search relevant articles, that is pertaining to their course of study so as to carry out research for their project or assignment.

4: Environment: The reader should carefully select a good academic environment that will not hinder their ways of learning. A cool, calm and noiseless environment should be put into consideration while reading, so as to ensure better comprehension of the various pages or passage of books they are learning from so as to ensure academic performance.

Whatever the ways students feels or like in reading they must ensure they use of the best so as to increase their rate of learning. Reading should be an integral part of every student so that they can excel in their academic.
